Jacinta Akinyi, the woman who naturally conceived quintuplets on Sunday 12th November 2017 has lost her other three babies. The surviving babies were two boys and a girl.

Jacinta had delivered two babies, a boy and a girl who died immediately after birth.

The other three babies were delivered at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

According to a statement given by Florence Ogero the Nurse Manager at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, the third baby passed away at 11 pm on the very day of its delivery.

Reports confirmed the baby died due to being underweight as well as a condition triggered by low levels of blood platelets.

The other two babies passed away at 6 am on Tuesday, 14th November 2017.

The fourth baby died as a result of severe pneumonia linked to the birth-related complications.

The fifth baby died due to its blood not fully forming.

The staff at Kisii Teaching and Referral hospital gave the best care to the infants but it was all in vain as the infants suffered from disseminated cardiovascular collapse. This deadly complication is linked to the heart and blood vessels.

The birth of the quintuplets was premature and to make it worse, the mother did not attend antenatal clinics.

Diagnosis of the multiple babies was noted during delivery.

The lack of the mother not attending antenatal clinics denied the quintuplets a chance of survival. If they would have been diagnosed earlier, the quintuplets would have been given the appropriate care and attention.

The birth of quintuplets is very rare among humans, averaging to only one out of many thousand pregnancies.
